Technically, my previous attempt at haiku was senryu, since it dealt with human foibles rather than nature (and was funny, not serious). Source: the omniscient Wikipedia. There are some articles online about haikus that discuss ways to write them without sticking hard and fast to the 5-7-5 rule.
For my Chutney series, I’ll [...]

Congratulations to Chutney, who beat me (though was still edged out by Peacebang) in the UU Blog Awards. Strangely, it seems that my plan did backfire and I wound up basically just advertising for others.
A series of haikus are forthcoming, honoring Chutney’s greatness.

Okay, folks, the UU Blog Awards are on, and I’d like to make it interesting. I’m betting Chutney that I will beat him in Best Religious Writing or Theological Commentary - Best of Class. If I win, I am requesting that he write a short story about Lion-O’s conversion to Unitarian Universalism and post it [...]

While I’m on a Unitarian Universalist kick, here’s a question for my readers. One of the Seven Sacred Verses er, Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism is to affirm the worth and dignity of every human being. How does that translate into ethical action in terms of the case of Ashley? She is the recently disabled girl made [...]

Dan Harper has begun a series on "Post-Christian worship" which can be found here. His definition of "post-Christian" is within that post and also on another page. I’m enjoying the discussion and looking forward to more. I used to call myself "post-Christian" and then dropped it altogether in favor of "religious humanist." I’ve had a similar [...]

Dan Harper complains that he isn’t qualified to nominate or vote for the multitude of UU blogs out there. He’s got a point–there are 200 on the aggregator and it’s daunting to keep up with them all, or even a few.
The comments he’s received in response are interesting, though. Philocrites points out that the awards [...]

Head over to UUpdates and nominate your favorite UU blogs and posts from this past year. If you feel like nominating me, please do so in the “non-UU-themed” blog section. Somehow I got put in both non-UU and UU-themed. Also, if you feel like perusing the archives, you can check out my UU posts, posts [...]

Welcome to the sixth installment of the UU Blog Carnival. We had three submissions this month on the topic of change. The bloggers interpreted the assignment in a wide variety of ways–I was thinking primarily of personal change, but we had some reflection on impermanence and institutional change.
What compels you to change, and [...]

Before I start, please be aware that I have worked against the terrible urge to make puns on Dr. Goodenough’s name. You won’t find any of them here, although they cry out “use me in your title!” every time I start to write on her book. I’ve been wanting to write on this [...]
