Are gays and lesbians maladjusted?

Friday, November 10th, 2006

This therapist, who works with men and women who want to change their sexual orientation, or learn to live in ways more amenable to their ethical views (broadly known as the ex-gay movement), dispels some of the myths about the mental health of gay men and women.  Dr. Throckmorton is a professor at Grove City [...]

Nietszche and Misogyny: the gaps

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

Here’s what I’m working on. It’s my attempt at being a “continental” philosopher, something I haven’t tried to do since my seminary days (and then only very badly). I’m striving to avoid the worst of the tradition–extreme self-referentiality, jargon and hysterically unnecessary wordplay. Pardon the font…it’s a Word document copy-paste.
Friedrich Nietzsche’s attitudes towards [...]

New Jersey decision

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

You can read the text of the New Jersey Supreme Court opinion in Mark Lewis, et. al. vs. Gwendolyn Harris, et. al on the state’s judiciary website.  The decision was 4-3 for granting the same rights to same-sex couples as heterosexual couples, with three of the judges favoring full marital status and four of them [...]

Going too far

Friday, October 20th, 2006

This is not about “harrassment” or “tolerance.”  If his pickup truck’s slogan has to go, who says that a bumper-sticker with this message wouldn’t get you fired?

I personally think it’s funny, although it isn’t something I would say to a Christian co-worker.  (I probably wouldn’t have it on my car, either.)
The fired employee was in [...]

And one more thing…

Monday, October 16th, 2006

While it is a legitimate rejoinder to my post to point out that Liberty Sunday is not representative of all Christians, or even all evangelicals (a point I gladly concede), I ask how you would respond if you were being singled out for execution in this way?
There are people in this country who would like [...]

Liberty Sunday: homosexuality should be a capital offense

Monday, October 16th, 2006

Bishop Wellington Boone didn’t say so outright, but look at his chain of reasoning:
[Homosexuality] was one time a capital offense.  How could we make it a capital offense?  Because most lawyers studied from William Blackstone…Where did he get it from?  The Bible. The Bible was the book.
The rest of the video, which you can [...]

34 years and counting…

Friday, October 13th, 2006

Among the comments on disputed mutability’s insightful post about The Homosexual Next Door, the recent book written by Alan Chambers of Exodus International, I found this one:
After some 34 years after the rather “intense” onset of puberty, I have not experienced any perceptible shift in the directionality (nor magnitude) of my attractions.

Who wrote this?  The ministry [...]

Harry Knox at MCCGSL

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

Sunday we went to see Harry Knox preach at the MCCGSL (Metropolitan Community Church of Greater St. Louis).  Knox is the Religion and Faith head honcho at the HRC (Human Rights Council).  It was the first time I’d stepped inside of an evangelical church service in over three years.  Below are some observations which are, as [...]

God sent Israel war ‘caus of the gays

Monday, July 17th, 2006

Says Christine Darg of Exploits Ministry. God’s got a lot of things to manage all at once, so he multi-tasks every now and then. In New Orleans, he sent a hurricane to dispatch with the homosexual hedonists, but this time, he’s decided to use an international conflict.  He’s stopping the homofacist gay [...]
