About

It’s pretty easy to find out information about me online. You can go to MySpace, Facebook, Friendster, my home page and view my CV, or do a Google search.

For the sake of disambiguation, though, I will say that I am not:

Colleen Keating - the singer and voice teacher
Colleen M. Keating - an interpreter for the deaf
Colleen Keating - a doctor in Cedar Rapids

I’m a UT Austin philosophy grad student interested in philosophy of religion, mind and Buddhism. This is the place where I write about it, along with other topics like sexuality, gay and lesbian issues, and academics. I have an undergraduate degree in English and Spanish, sixty hours worth of MDiv work (no degree) and a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Missouri Saint Louis. I’ve done some coursework at the University of Chicago (Sanskrit, through the Graham School) and Loyola University.

If you want to know a bit more about my general views, you can read my “This I Believe” series at the links below, where I lay it out in some detail, or by clicking on the symbols representing some of my core orientations to the world:

Atheism | Humanism | Buddhism

Introduction
Part 1: Origins
Part 2: Humanism
Part 3: Being Human
Part 4: Freedom
Part 5: Rationality & the Self
Part 6: Buddhism
Part 7: Conclusion

My more detailed ideas on philosophy of mind and Buddhism are scattered throughout the site and continually in progress. Should you be interested in my past connections to the PCA, read this post for the details.

You’re welcome to join in the discussion, provided you’re polite and don’t sling spam, ad hominems or nasty words. Relatively few persons have been banned from this site, but I will enforce these guidelines equally.

You can also see what others have said about this blog on this page.

Finally, the title of this blog is taken from Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Philosophical Investigations (years ago, the blog was “Language Games and Miscellaneous Arbitrary Marks”, but that wound up being unwieldy). The pertinent passage is #170 and the surrounding paragraphs.
