Vlog #2: Public reason and religion

with 4 comments

I have a few thoughts about the role religious presuppositions should play in our public debate. The clip is ten minutes long, and features quotations from Kathleen Kennedy Townsend’s Failing America’s Faithful, as well as the Catholic thinker Jacques Maritan. An excellent article outlining some of these ideas is "Charitable Interpretations" by Hans Von Rautenfeld, in Political Theory, Vol 32 No 1 (February 2004). Take a watch and then respond–whether on YouTube or in the comments. I’m looking forward to your views on this difficult question. Click on the icon below to view the video.

Oh, and I can’t tell you how happy I am with the response to my first vlog. The pressure was on for the second, so I added a few gimmicks. Personally, while I think the vlog format is great for getting to know someone’s personality, it is hard to convey nuance, unless you spend time talking from a pre-written script and make a lengthy video.

Also, in response to a few of the comments on the thread at BlueGal: 1) I am partnered with a wonderful woman that I’m marrying in June; 2) you’d never see me dead in a WonderBra, and 3) I did have a few notes scribbled down for the first video, and some for this one, but not very coherent!

Hit me back with some comments!
