UU Blog Award Overload
Dan Harper complains that he isn’t qualified to nominate or vote for the multitude of UU blogs out there. He’s got a point–there are 200 on the aggregator and it’s daunting to keep up with them all, or even a few.
The comments he’s received in response are interesting, though. Philocrites points out that the awards could be thought of as “as a way of drawing people’s attention to writers and writings that deserve a larger audience, not as some sort of comprehensive assessment.” I agree.
Bill Baar wonders why more Unitarian Universalists aren’t writing about Unitarian Universalism or religion, for that matter. I think that we are–but it may not look the same as the way others write. We talk about our perspectives on the world, which cannot help but be informed by our religious views (even when those perspectives aren’t what most people might mean when they say “religious.”)
This post isn’t primarily a “blegging” post for a nomination, although if you’d like to nominate me, great. It’s another nudge-nudge to show why I think something like the UU Carnival is helpful (a monthly highlighting of UU writing is more digestible than a daily feed), and why I’m part of The Daily Scribe project, which will be announcing some major changes in a few weeks.
Thoughts? Leave them here or head over to Dan’s place.
Oh, and I think there is some confusion about the nominations. A few non-UU blogs have been nominated, and Jeff Sharlet (who I’ve never seen comment on anyone’s blog here) is up for “Best Commenter” along with a blog I’ve never seen before (A Blog of Mystical Searches). All the more reason to put in some votes for bona fide good stuff, people!
